On May 22, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation declared a recall both domestically as well as in the US because of airbag issues.
This recall is due to a defective inflator inside its Takata airbags for the passengerâ€™s side. For the Japanese market, it applies to 100,165 units of the Lancer i built between January 6, 2004 and February 20, 2012.
On May 28, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US reported receipt of this recall from Mitsubishi Motors North America concerning the defective side airbags for the passengerâ€™s seat.
For the US, this recall applies to a total of 82,784 units of 2004 â€“ 2006 Lancer and Lancer Evolution models as well as the 2004 Lancer Sportback.
