Mazda CX-5 (US model)

Mazda CX-5 achieves one million units of global production in less than three and a half years

On May 25, Mazda Motor Corporation announced that its global production of the CX-5 reached one million units at the end of April. Nearly three years and five months after its production commenced back in November 2011, the CX-5 is Mazda’s second fastest model to reach one million units behind the Axela.

The CX-5 is Mazda’s first model to be part of its next-generation lineup featuring their SKYACTIV technology and KODO-Soul of Motion design, and is being produced at the Ujina Plant in Hiroshima. Currently, the CX-5 is also being manufactured at Changan Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. (CMA) in China, Mazda Sollers Manufacturing Rus in Russia, Mazda Malaysia, and Vina Mazda in Vietnam.

Since its release in February 2012, the CX-5 has received over 60 awards around the world including the 2012-2013 Japan Car of the Year. In addition, it became the top selling SUV in Japan for two straight years in 2012 and 2013, developing into Mazda’s top-of-the-line model.
