Toyota USA announced the additional recall of cars (retrieval and free repair) with defective Takata air bags on May 12.
This time, they added the recall of 160 thousand RAV4 models released in 2004-2005. They conducted a recall due to the possibility of driver’s seat air bags causing injuries to drivers when accidents occur.
For the same reason, they extended the recall due to two types of cars with defective air bag inflators in the passenger seat area. Their target is to recall a sum total of roughly 177 thousand units of the Tundra (released in 2003-2004) and the Sequoia (released in 2004).
Moreover, they also added the recall of roughly 300 thousand models released in 2006-2007. The relevant models are the Corolla released in 2005-2007, the Tundra released in 2005-2006, and the Lexus SC released in 2005-2007.
The total number of additional recalls is roughly 637 thousand units. Chief quality officer Dino Triantafyllos of Toyota USA commented, “Toyota will continue to put importance in the safety of our clients.”
