The Altima is the flagship model of Nissan Motor Corporation in the American market. Nissan expands its recall in U.S. to roughly 620,000 Altimas (recovery and repair are free of charge).
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that Nissan North America reported that it will be expanding its Altima recall.
The first recall was announced in October 2014. The faulty hood latch may fail and cause the hood to open while the car is in motion. The recall covers 220,423 units of the 2013 Altima that were manufactured from March 2012 to March 2013.
The same defect was found in the 2014 Altima as well; hence, the additional recall. The latest Altima recall covers model years 2013 to 2015. These are the 625,000 units that were manufactured from March 2013 to December 2014.
Nissan North America will contact customers affected by this recall. The defective hood latches will, of course, be promptly replaced.
