On January 5, Subaru of America announced its sales results of new cars for 2014. Total sales amounted to 513,693 units for a 21% increase from the previous year and a surplus for sixth consecutive year.
The Forester, Subaruâ€™s best selling vehicle, recorded its highest sales ever in 2014 with 159,953 units, up 29.4% from the year before.
Meanwhile, Subaruâ€™s other top-of-the-line model the Outback (aka Legacy Outback in Japan) was also a success in 2014. The release of its new model helped set a new sales record of 138,790 units as well as a 17.6% increase from 2013. The Legacy (aka Legacy B4 in Japan) was also very popular with sales up by 23.6% to 52,270 units, as it introduced a new model as well.
The XV Crosstrek (Japanese name: Impreza XV), which was released in September 2012, also had a strong year as its sales grew by 32% to 70,956 units in 2014.
Furthermore, the new WRX series (including the all-new WRX STI) achieved a new record with 25,492 units, a significant increase of 41.8% from the previous year. On the other hand, sales of the Impreza (excluding WRX) fell by 1.5% to 57,996 units.
