US president elect Donald Trump took to Twitter to criticize Toyota for its plans to build a new Mexico plant. Toyota's US division has responded with a statement to the tweet.
Trump criticized Toyota's plan to build the Corolla at its new plant for sale in the US. He indicated on Twitter that there was a chance a sizeable border tax would be levied for exports as a tariff.
Toyota's US division made a statement in response to the tweet on January 5, stressing its contribution to the US economy saying, "Toyota has 10 plants in the US and employees 136,000 people. Our total investment is around $219,000,000."
Toyota further commented, "We look forward to building a cooperative relationship with the Trump administration."
